Dla tego zespołu nie ma rzeczy niemożliwych! Norweskie trio Motorpsycho od lat serwuje albumy na najwyższym poziomie, zachwycając swoim kunsztem fanów wyrafinowanych gitarowych pejzaży. Artyści są bardzo płodni i uwielbiają dzielić się bardzo regularnie nową muzyką. Swój ogromny talent udowadniają po raz kolejny na najnowszym wydawnictwie. "Ancient Astronauts" to cztery malownicze kompozycje z pogranicza psychodelii i gitarowej pejzażowości. To muzyka progresywna w najbardziej szczerym wymiarze tego wyrażenia. Kim są starożytni astronauci? To spróbowali przybliżyć mi członkowie zespołu, objaśniając znaczenie poszczególnych albumowych fragmentów.
Album został nagrany w Amper Tone w Oslo latem 2021 roku, na żywo, w trzyosobowym składzie, bez producenta Reine Fiske, stale współpracującego z zespołem. Mimo covidowych przeszkód uchwycona została żywa energia i wspólne emocje tria. Nie było żadnych ograniczeń, narzuconych ram, była za to czysta kreatywność. Cztery nowe kompozycje pełne są tajemniczości i niejednoznaczności. Czy zespół podąża za wskazówkami, które pozostawili przodkowie? Czy pozostawia kolejne znaki do odkrycia dla innych? Tu oczywiście pole do interpretacji jest ogromne. Jedno jest pewne - to piękny album, poruszający i bardzo emocjonalny.
Przyjrzyjmy się poszczególnym utworom:
"The Ladder" to utwór o dążeniu człowieka do poznania głębi, do dogłębnego zrozumienia zjawisk, do odkrycia sedna, najczystszej postaci, do poszukiwania oświecenia. Można porównać ten proces do pokonywania kolejnych szczebli na drabinie. Nie jestem taki pewien, czy tak jest faktycznie...
"The Flower Of Awareness" jest o tym, jak postrzegał życie Axel Jensen, norweski twórca - pisarz, autor powieści, wierszy, esejów oraz scenariuszy bajek i filmów animowanych. Tytuł kompozycji ("kwiat świadomości") jest bardzo poetyckim, pięknym dopełnieniem tej porcji improwizacji.
"Mona Lisa / Azrael"
Anioł Śmierci z pewnością jest błędnie przedstawiany w sztuce: cóż może być bardziej przerażająco pięknego i doskonałego niż on? Jak Tadzio w "Śmierci w Wenecji": życie ucieka.
"Chariot Of The Sun"
To kompozycja instrumentalna, bez słów, ale aby wskazać odbiorcy drogę interpretacji, nadaliśmy mu tytuł nawiązujący do greckiego mitu o Faetonie. Mam nadzieję, że ta narracyjna wskazówka pokaże kierunek, jeśli odbiorca będzie go potrzebował. by utwór trafił głębiej. Utwór jest oparty na pętli - kończy się tam, gdzie się rozpoczyna, jak słońce podróżujące po niebie, cyklicznie, na wieki.
I jak? Pięknie, prawda? Ale nic dziwnego - opowieści są równie poetyckie i poruszające jak muzyka. Ta otwartość interpretacji, niejednoznaczność i tajemnica to znaki rozpoznawcze tej sztuki. "Ancient Astronauts" to opowieść o tym, co uniwersalne, aktualne na zawsze. To piękno w najczystszej postaci.

For the band like Motorpsycho, impossible is nothing! Norwegian trio Motorpsycho has been recording albums with a highest quality for years, delighting fans of sophisticated guitar landscapes. The artists are very prolific and love to share new music very regularly. They prove their enormous talent once again on the latest release. "Ancient Astronauts" are four picturesque compositions reaching for of psychedelia and picturesque guitar landscapes. This is the progressive music in the most honest sense of this phrase. Who are the ancient astonauts? That's what the band members tried to explain to me, getting deeper into the meaning of each four album fragments.
The album was recorded in the Amper Tone studio in Oslo, in the summer of 2021. Since Covid was still making international travel very difficult, Stockholm-based Reine Fiske wasn’t in the studio with the three core Motorpsycho members, making this the first album in years that they recorded as a three-piece. Recorded mainly in live takes with only a few overdubs and the vocals added afterwards, this is essentially the band playing live in the studio.
There were no borders, no rules, just lots of creative energy. The four new compositions are full of mystery and undefined hints. Are the band members following the ancient hints left by ancestors? Or are they leaving their own ones to be found by music travellers and discoverers? Of course the interpretation is open and multidimensional. This is a truly moving, emotional and simply beautiful album.
So what are the particular pieces about?
The Ladder
is a song about that human need to strive for a more thorough,
deeper and purer understanding: our search for enlightenment. Some
people seem to view this process as steps on a ladder. I’m not so
sure.
This is what Norwegian author Axel Jensen called life. A beautiful notion, and a nice name for a beautiful piece of improvised music.
This is an instrumental and has no words, but to give the listener a way into the music we gave it this title, which relates to the greek myth of Phaethon. Hopefully this gives you a little narrative to go with the music if you want one. The song is circular in structure and ends where it began. Like the sun travelling across the sky. Circular. Eternal.
That's simply beautiful, isn't it? But it's was obvious for me - the stories behind the compositions are poetic and moving just like the music. The openess of interpretations, undefined meaning and the mystery are the hallmarks of Motorpsycho's art. "Ancient Astronauts" album is the beauty in the most clear, crystal form.
